Teen Volunteer Opportunities at the Library

Looking for a place to volunteer? Consider the Lewisville Public Library! The Youth Services area has opportunities for teens ages 14-18 to give back to the community as a volunteer!

Whether for National Honor Society or just to help out, the Library is a great environment for volunteering.

Each teen must attend an orientation session which is offered every other Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the library; preregistration is required.

For more information or to reserve a spot at the next orientation session, please contact the Youth Services Desk of the Lewisville Public library at 972.219.3570.

Live outside of Lewisville?  Check your local library.  They probably have a similar program.

We all want to raise generous children.  What better way to demonstrate the spirit of giving than to volunteer your time.  Below you'll find ways to volunteer as a family, along with opportunities for kids to give back.

Greater Lewisville Cares
972-539-2622 or
http://www.greaterlewisvillecares.org
Greater Lewisville Cares is a local organization that offers a number of volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, and groups in our area.

GLC works with a variety of community service agencies to find out their volunteer needs and wants. They then publish volunteer opportunities in their monthly calendar that is sent to all GLC members. Members can pick and choose what projects fit their schedule and areas of interest. These projects do not involve long time commitments and are ideal for busy working individuals, families, or others who need greater flexibility in their service activities.
Some projects you might see on their monthly calendar include:
  • Helping clients at checkout in the CCA pantry
  • Putting together family packets or cleaning toys for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Denton County
  • Cheering on Special Olympics of North Texas athletes
  • Playing bingo, celebrating birthdays or providing music at an assisted living center
  • Assisting local animal rescues
  • Delivering Meals on Wheels
  • Serving a meal at a local soup kitchen
Attending a New Volunteer Orientation is all you need to do to get started as a volunteer through GLC. Orientations are brief meetings (usually 30-45 minutes) designed to offer some background on the organization, help us find out what your interests are, let you know the various levels of involvement available to you with GLC, and answer any questions you may have. We ask that a parent attend with their child volunteer, if the child is under 18 years of age to affirm parental approval and sign release forms.  No RSVP is necessary - just come if you are able.

Don’t wait! Learn more at the next orientation!

CCA (Christian Community Action)

If you’re looking for a way to volunteer with your kids, CCA has plenty of opportunities, both during the holidays and throughout the year.

During the holidays, families can help by manning a giving tree at one of the local malls (go to http://www.ccahelps.org/Volunteer.html for available schedules), or helping put together holiday food baskets the week before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Throughout the year, you and your family can also help sort and stock items in the food pantry.

Please contact CCA Volunteer Manager, Charlotte Alexander, at 972-219-4341 or volunteer@ccahelps.org for more information and available schedules.  It’s a great way to teach the kids about giving back to others!

Do you know of other volunteer opportunities for families and kids in our area?  Contact Us with details, so we can share them with our readers.
