Chalk This WayThe popular “Chalk This Way” family festival will move to the heart of historic Old Town Lewisville for its 2013 event, to be held Saturday, June 1, in and around the city-owned Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater.
Festival hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Planned activities include professional chalk artists, amateur sidewalk chalk competitions, a children’s gallery for on-site chalk creations, arts and crafts vendors, festival food, sidewalk games, and live entertainment. Entry to the festival is free, although participating in some activities will carry a nominal charge.

“Chalk This Way” has been held the past two years in The Colony and has drawn crowds in excess of 2,000 people each year. Event organizers believe the new location and expanded marketing efforts will help draw an even larger crowd in 2013.

Heading the live entertainment lineup on the outdoor main stage will be the David Gallegos Band, a self-described New Age flamenco-style band, at 12:30 p.m.; and The Stoneleighs (www.stoneleighs.com), a Rolling Stones tribute band, starting at 4 p.m. after the “Chalk This way” awards ceremony.

Grapevine-based OhLook Performing Arts Center will present a matinee showing of “Fiddler on the Roof” in the MCL Grand Performance Hall at 2:30 p.m. A separate ticket is required. For information, please visit www.ohlookperform.com.

To reach the festival site from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The MCL Grand will be on the left. Free festival parking is available along Main Street, one block south at the corner of Elm and Mill streets, or at Lewisville City Hall (151 W. Church Street). Additional festival parking will be available on a grass lot accessed from the corner of Charles and Walters streets, weather permitting.
