Fiddler on the Roof in Lewisville

OhLook Performing Arts will present the classic musical favorite “Fiddler on the Roof” for three shows May 31 and June 1 in the Performance Hall at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater in Old Town Lewisville.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 31; and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1. May Tickets range from $15 to $20 per person and can be purchased online at www.ohlookperform.com or by calling 817.421.2825. Advance tickets cannot be purchased at MCL Grand.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is generally considered one of the classics of live stage musicals. It features one of the best-known and best-loved scores in musical theater, including such songs as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Tradition” and “If I Were a Rich Man.”

The story is set in the little village of Anatevka where Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof” has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

The lead role of Tevye will be played by Justin Brooks, Uptown Community Music Director for Church of the Incarnation in Dallas.

Ohlook Performing Arts Center was founded in 2002 by professional singers Matthew Lord and Jill Blalock Lord, who wanted to offer a theater school where everyone is given a chance to express themselves in a positive, caring environment.  The company has produced more than 100 musicals and straight plays featuring its talented students and instructors.

Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, opened in January 2011. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville has a multi-year agreement with the city for naming rights at the center.

To reach the MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Parking is not allowed on the grass lot across Church Street from MCL Grand.

Patrons planning to attend the Saturday matinee show should be aware that the “Chalk This Way” sidewalk chalk festival is being held that day in Old Town Lewisville adjacent to the MCL Grand, so some traffic detours will be required.
