Autism Awareness Symposium in Grapevine9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
“The Biggest Loser” Couple will talk about Autism at Community EventPhil and Amy Parham share how appearance on show created a second life-changing opportunity for their family
According to Phil and Amy Parham, stars of season six of “The Biggest Loser,” stress and pain over their son’s struggle with autism helped make them overweight as they turned to food for comfort.
Life changed dramatically for the overweight couple when they were selected to compete on the weight loss reality show. As a result, they lost a combined total of 256 pounds. Through an interesting twist, being on the show also helped them find hope and help for their autistic son, Rhett, as well.
The reality TV stars will share their personal experiences with autism on Friday, Feb. 24th from 9:00am – 1:00pm at a free public community Autism Awareness Symposium.
The symposium will be held at Stacy Furniture Warehouse, 1900 Main Street, 3rd Floor Community Room. A number of autism-related providers and support groups will be on hand, including Autism Speaks, Connections Kids, Life Planning for Families of Special Needs, Calming Hugs, Monkey Mouths, Greater Tots, ABA Academy, Kotsanis Institute, North Texas SNAP, Therapy 2000, Rocky Top Equine Therapy, Behavior Innovations, FEAT North Texas, NonPareil Institute and more!
Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in America, with 1 in 110 children (and 1 in 70 boys) being impacted by the disorder. Because autism is a “spectrum” disorder—with symptoms ranging from very mild to severe—it can impact individuals, and their families, very differently.
If you have autism, know someone with autism, or are an educator, doctor or other professional serving the autism community, you won’t want to miss this informative and inspirational event!
The Community Autism Resources Forum, sponsored by LearningRx, is open to the public, and individuals with autism, family members, and professionals who serve the autism community are invited to attend the forum to become better acquainted with local resources and help.
The event is open to the community, and while RSVPs are not required, they are appreciated to help us plan food and seating. If you’d like to attend, set up a booth, or know more information, email us at maria.j@learningrx.net or call us at 469-464-5888.

Life is made even crazier when Uncle Louie, a small-time hood on the lam, comes to hide out in the family candy store. Room Service at GLCT8:00 PM – 9:30 PM
“Room Service” presented by the Greater Lewisville Community TheatreOriginally produced on Broadway in 1937 and best remembered today for the zany movie released in 1938 starring the Marx Brothers. This is the story of a nimble-witted producer, living on credit with several actors in a Broadway hotel, desperately in need of a good script. He finds one, and, by great good luck, he also finds an angel (backer) with $15,000. This comedy shows how, in a hectic few days, the producer plays hide and seek with the angel who wants to withdraw his support, outwits creditors and, at the very last moment the show goes on, overcoming all of the ludicrous and unexpected obstacles.

Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m.Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors over 65 and juniors 18 and under.

Often called the best comedy-drama-hit ever written by master playwright Neil Simon, this is the story of two boys in 1942, living in Yonkers, New York, with their stern immigrant grandmother and her grown daughter Bella. Bella appears to be mentally challenged, but her simple wisdom and kind nature are often what get the family through tough times. Life is made even crazier when Uncle Louie, a small-time hood on the lam, comes to hide out in the family candy store. Full of laughs, the story will suddenly tug at your heart, and you may be laughing and crying at the same time. A Pulitzer Prize winner.Performance Dates:

February 10-26
Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m.Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors over 65 and juniors 18 and under.
