Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA)

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area is home to several historic structures, most notably the Minor-Porter Log House, which dates to about 1869. Completely restored and furnished with all the trappings of everyday frontier life, the log house gives LLELA visitors a window on early Denton County history. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to guide visitors through the structures and answer questions in this informal tour. Participate in a guided nature walk. Explore the Cicada Trail with a Texas Master Naturalist in this guided search for animal tracks and signs, and learn more about the natural history of LLELA. There is a $2 program fee, in addition to the regular gate fee ($5/person). Reservations are requested, but not required, at 972-219-3930. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and drinking water. LLELA Bird Watching

Over 270 species of birds have been recorded in the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area’s forests, prairies, and marshes. Bird watchers of all skill levels are welcome to join our master birders as they guide visitors to birding locations at LLELA. Some of the best spots are not normally available to the public, outside of a scheduled tour. Ages 10 and up. Angling instructors at LLELA are offering a whole morning of fun activities that will introduce children to the art of fishing. Activities will include: casting, fish identification, knot-tying, aquatic habitats, fishing rules and ethics and more. There is a $2 program fee, in addition to the regular gate fee ($5/person). Experience a Night Hike at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area Join our trail guides as they lead a moonlit stroll down the Redbud Trail on Friday, March 9.  The hike will start at 6:00 p.m., and end by 8:00 p.m. We may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear...it’s probably just an armadillo.
