Publishers will often give you numbers… Saying their site gets X number of “hits,” “page views,” “readers,” or “unique visitors.” But how do you know that these numbers are accurate? And how do you compare the information you receive for different publishers (apples to apples)?
www.Alexa.com is an online tool which ranks over 30 million websites worldwide. They rank websites similar to the way that Nielson ranks TV shows.
Top sites rank 1-100 (Facebook, Google, eBay, etc.), so the lower the number, the better. For comparison, here are some other local websites and how they rank:
