The Wallflowers to Headline Carrollton’s 14th Annual Festival at the Switchyard; Deep Blue Something to Open
The City of Carrollton is excited to announce Grammy-award winning and multi-platinum-selling rock band the Wallflowers as the headlining entertainment with opener alt rock band Deep Blue Something for the 14th annual Festival at the Switchyard.
Led by the raspy vocals of Jakob Dylan, the Wallflowers formed in 1989 in Los Angeles where they recorded their first two studio albums, the second of which featured the twice Grammy-nominated single “6th Avenue Heartache”. “One Headlight” from the same album found enormous success, winning two Grammy awards. Their records have achieved multi-platinum status, and “One Headlight” went on to be named number one on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Adult Alternative Songs.
Alternative rock band Deep Blue Something will open for the headliners. Brothers Todd and Toby Pipes formed the band in 1991 in Denton and will bring their homegrown Texan talent to Downtown Carrollton. The hit single “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” off their second album Home reached the top five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one in the U.K. in 1996. The iconic single continues to feature in popular television series and has more than 300 million streams on Spotify.
Before the evening’s headliners, Downtown Fever, a highly sought-after party band that has performed for everyone from celebrities to presidents, will have festivalgoers up and, on their feet.
In the late afternoon, catch the group Mock Lobster and their tribute to the B-52’s, hit song “Love Shack” included.
Fans of grunge rock won’t want to miss Pearl Gem, a group of passionate musicians, pay tribute to the legendary band Pearl Jam with every performance.
Havana NRG (new rhythm generation) will perform a variety of Cuban-style music like the salsa, timba, bachata, and merengue.
Up-and-coming country artist Jason Kyle Wickens will take the stage with his five-piece band. Festivalgoers can tap their boots and tip their hats while enjoying his smooth baritone sound rooted in the Texas country music scene.
