2021 Summer Reading Club
“Tails and Tales” is the theme for summer reading challenges at the Library. Reading is a great summer activity, and it’s especially important for children to help them avoid “summer slide” of their academic skills. Fortunately, people of all ages can have fun and win prizes for reading during the summer at the Library. Four different challenges with age-appropriate prizes are offered. All challenges run June 1 through July 31. Visit one of the Library service desks or the Flower Mound Library website for details.
Challenge categories are:
- Babies through PreK
- Kindergarten through Grade 5
- Grades 6-12
Registration begins May 17 for all ages.
All challenges run June 1 through July 31.
Join the Summer Reading Challenges for all ages on our brand-new Beanstack site! If you already have an account from a previous summer, please login using the same username and password. Registration Information for Weekly Children’s Classes
In order to maintain an attendance count that allows for social distancing, all in-person classes will have limited attendance until further notice. Registration is required and open until all of the spots for the class have been filled. All early literacy classes will still have a virtual option with unlimited attendance.
You may choose ONE in-person early literacy class to attend (we suggest the program designed for the youngest child in your group.) Registration is per month. Your registration for a class will give you access to all in-person times for that class (for example, registering for June Leaping Learners gives access to all in-person Leaping Learners times in the month of June.)
Attendance is limited to two children accompanied by one adult, or two adults with one child. If your group exceeds the maximum, we invite you to attend our virtual classes. Only those who are registered will be allowed to attend the program. Please do not bring anyone who is not registered. Unregistered adults and children (such as school-aged siblings, extended family, etc.) will be asked to wait outside the room. Children under 10 must remain accompanied by a caregiver. If another caregiver is not present, the registered group will not be able to attend the program.
Buzzing Bumblebees: Geared toward children who are not yet walking, this class will encourage babies to explore the world of language and develop motor skills through books, songs, rhymes and related activities. Buzzing Bumblebees meets on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. in person and Tuesdays at 11 a.m. on Zoom in June and July. Email Ms. Heather to register for virtual classes.
Wiggly Walkers: A new class designed for “new walkers” (those who are just starting to walk and still require some assistance) up to the age of two. Wiggly Walkers encourages tots to build early literacy skills through music, books, and rhyme. This class meets Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. in person, and Thursdays at 11 a.m. on Zoom in June and July. Email Ms. Heather to register for virtual classes.
Romping Rhymers: Two- and three-year-olds will have a rollicking time reading, singing, and dancing while continuing to build literacy skills at Romping Rhymers on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in person, and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. on Zoom in June and July. Email Ms. Heather to register for virtual classes.
Leaping Learners: Children ages three to five will share books, sing songs, and develop group listening skills in this class designed as a launch pad to reading.
