Flower Mound Police Department to Kick Off Safe Neighborhoods Initiative
Summer break is just around the corner, a time when children will be out of school playing in neighborhoods, parks, and riding bikes on the Town’s great trail system. With this increased activity, the Flower Mound Police will officially kick off its Safe Neighborhoods Summer Initiative on June 1. This initiative will be led by beat officers and will focus on both pedestrian and bicycle safety in our neighborhoods.
The Department’s Neighborhood Summer Safety Initiative will incorporate traffic safety measures in neighborhoods, especially near parks and trails, where children are often present. During this time, officers will focus on speed limit enforcement and driver inattention violations to help ensure children have a safer summer.
The Police Department will also be launching its third annual “Get the Scoop” program, providing officers the opportunity to distribute treat vouchers to children they observe wearing helmets when riding a bicycle, skateboarding, roller blading, or similar type activities. This program is possible thanks to partnerships with our local businesses (listed below by location).
In addition to the “Get the Scoop” program, the police bike program provides a great chance for members of the Flower Mound Police Department to create positive community interactions and address criminal activity in areas inaccessible to a police vehicle. This year, the program was able to be expanded from 6 to 10 bicycle officers.
Thanks to a generous grant from CoServ, the Flower Mound Police Department was also able to purchase a new utility terrain vehicle (UTV). This four-passenger, 4-wheel-drive Bobcat UTV is equipped with emergency lights and sirens, and offers FMPD another vital tool to be utilized during special events like the Christmas Parade, Independence Fest, and the Veterans Day Relay Run. It will also allow for improved access to parks, trails, and other rural areas in Flower Mound.
The Neighborhood Summer Safety Initiative is part of our ongoing mission to deliver excellent police services with integrity, in partnership with our community, to instill trust, and promote a safe and secure environment that enhances Flower Mound’s distinctive quality of life.
