During summer break, Life Safety Park offers free safety education classes for children in Pre-K through 9th grade. Class topics vary by age level, but all classes include engaging educational activities and conversations with safety professionals.

Beep, Beep: Jeeps!

Students in this class will learn about basic motor vehicle and pedestrian safety skills, such as understanding when and where it is safe to cross a street. Safety rules discussed for when students ride in motor vehicles will include responsible seat belt and booster seat use. After the classroom presentation, students will be given time to practice their learned skills around Safety Town.
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in Kindergarten or 1st Grade ONLY.

- This class involves use of the battery-operated rovers by students, and as such parental supervision is required to help maintain a safe learning environment for all students and class attendees.
Firefighter Show-And-Tell

Together with a firefighter, students will read a fire safety book aloud, while practicing the exercises described in the book along the way. Once students have successfully mastered Stop, Drop, and Roll, and calling 9-1-1, students will walk to the Safety Town Fire Station to learn about firefighters as community helpers. He/She will don and describe their bunker gear, and even let students get hands on with some of the equipment.
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in Pre-Kindergarten ONLY.

Police Officer Show-And-Tell

Jr. Fire Academy

Does your child constantly tell you that he/she wants to be a firefighter when they grow up? Then this class is the perfect way to introduce them to what it takes to be a firefighter. Students will learn how to be ambassadors of fire safety by learning about the tools of prevention – smoke alarms, home escape plans, and fire extinguishers. That knowledge will then be put to the test in our Safety House. Once they’ve successfully mastered their fire safety skills, students will head to our Safety Town Fire Station to visit with a firefighter and learn about firefighting equipment.
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in 2nd-3rd Grade ONLY.

Crash Course: First Aid

This course is designed to teach 6th-9th graders about basic first aid ailments and treatments. After the classroom lesson, students will be given scenarios to practice their learned skills around Safety Town! Class topics will include, but are not limited to:
- Understanding what ‘First Aid’ is
- Recognizing and treating common bleeds
- Recognizing and treating common burns
- Recognizing and treating common insect bites and stings
- Handing unresponsive persons
- Contamination control
- Accidental poisonings

Bike Safety Rodeo

tudents in this class will learn about basic bicycle and pedestrian safety skills, such as understanding when and where it is safe to cross a street. Safety rules discussed for when students ride bikes will include responsible helmet wear and bike riding etiquette. After the classroom presentation, students will be given time to practice their learned skills around Safety Town.
Please note: this class is intended for children who already know how to ride a bike and can ride without adult assistance. Life Safety Park has a limited number of bicycles with training wheels, and bikes sizes may not be appropriate for all children and/or abilities.
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in 3rd thru 5th Grade ONLY.
- All bike riders must be at least 40′ tall to ride.
- Please do NOT bring your own motorized vehicle, push cars, scooters, wagons, tricycles, or bikes to ride around Safety Town.
- We provide bicycles that are 20′ tall (with training wheels) that have pedal brakes and 24′ tall bikes that have hand brakes.
- Helmets are required in order to ride. LSP provides helmets, but you are welcomed to bring your own! Avoid high ponytails, large bows or other hair accessories, etc.
Things to Know:
- Bike riders and parents should wear closed-toe, comfortable shoes.
- Arrive 10 minutes prior to class time
- Candid photos may be taken
- Students are highly encouraged to bring their own helmets!
- One parent is required to stay with their child(ren) for this class.

Splish Splash Bash: Water & Heat Safety

Students in this class will learn about how to be safe in the summer sun and when finding relief in the water. Topics will include general water and pool safety practices, open water safety (life jackets), and heat safety. To cap off the class with some fun, students will then be treated to a water balloon fight out on Safety Town!
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in Kindergarten thru 5th Grade ONLY.
Things to Know:
- Arrive 10 minutes prior to class time
- Candid photos may be taken
- Please dress your child accordingly – closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, etc.
- Due to some of the activities, children will get wet. Bringing a towel and/or change of clothes is advised.
- Parents are required to stay with their child(ren) for this class.
Tornado Town: Preparedness

This course is designed to teach 4th-6th graders about severe weather awareness and emergency preparedness. The classroom portion will be interactive with online quizzes and participation, so a smartphone or tablet device is recommended. After the classroom lesson, students will get to participate in a scavenger hunt around Safety Town to create their own emergency kit during a mock emergency situation! Topics include:
- Common North Texas weather hazards
- Difference between a weather ‘Watch’ and ‘Warning’
- Sources of getting emergency information
- Preparedness planning
Requirements: Children enrolled in this class should be in 4th-6th Grade ONLY.

- Children will be outside for part of the class; sunscreen is advised
