The Original Mud Run
When you think of the race that started it all you think “Mud Run”….The Original Mud Run.
The “toughs,” “spartans” and warriors” all came later but the idea generated over 25 years ago by a few Marines in California that then took root in the mecca of Obstacle Course Adventure Racing, North Texas, is still the standard by which all races are judged.
Mud Run is now in its 20th year in Texas and has become the preeminent Obstacle Course Adventure Race in the world. The sport of obstacle course adventure racing is now the fastest growing weekend fitness activity in the US! Some people, when looking at this genre of racing, prefer a party. Parties are fine but not at the expense of a great race.
Mud Run has always stuck to its roots in designing amazingly challenging courses, more obstacles than any other race, music, food, drinks and fun! The courses are inclusive to everyone from the novice to the most serious adventure athlete. There is a timed Competition category that includes the most accomplished athletes.
With both a 5K and 10K course, this event is perfect for fun-runners, friends, co-workers, families and is especially suited to organizational and corporate team-building events.
Mud Run boasts the biggest kids Mud Run in the US and even offers a wave where your dog can join you on your run!
Make sure you put fun, fitness and personal achievements in the center of your life. Register for this year’s run: http://www.imudrun.com/dfw. Use promo code FAMILYEGUIDE and SAVE 20%!

We’ve done the Mud Run on a couple of occasions and everyone LOVES it!
And the volunteers and other racers are all so supportive – it’s nice when everyone cheers each other on!
It really is a race for all fitness levels, as you have the option on any obstacle to “skip” it. Personally, I opted to walk around the ladder wall and fireman’s pole – I wasn’t comfortable climbing that high while I was slippery with mud.
I would also recommend wearing something that covers your knees, as there were some areas when we were crawling through the mud.
Have fun and be sure to sign up for a future Mud Run!
