Recently, my family and I were invited to attend a complimentary movie at the Historic Palace Theatre in Grapevine. Believe it or not, although we’ve lived in the area for over 20 years, we’ve never been there. Let me tell you… we were very impressed!!
The Palace Theatre, built in 1940, is an Art Deco style building prominently situated on Grapevine’s Historic Main Street. It’s been beautifully restored and has hidden gems throughout the facility, such as a balcony and “love seats” for two.
One of the surprises we encountered before the show was that an employee came to the front of the theatre, sat down, and provided us with some fun facts about the movie, as well as a back-story. On the evening that we attended, we saw “Edward Scissorhands.” Of course, the narrator started by letting us know that we would be seeing “Edward Scissorhands,” which was directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. But then she went on to tell us about different actors that were considered for the roll of Edward (Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Robert Downy Jr., etc.) and that the role of The Inventor was written specifically for Vincent Price, and would ultimately be his final feature film role. She also “set up” the opening scene of the movie. It was really a pleasant surprise to have this personal touch in such a charming theatre.
Of course, because of the historic nature of the theatre, there wasn’t a massive concession area with outrageous prices. Their offerings were simple and affordable, such as:
- $1 Popcorn – Individual Size
- $4 Popcorn – Large Tub
- $1 Candy Bars
- $1 Small Fountain Drinks
The Palace Theatre offers a wide variety of movies and live performances. Some upcoming holiday events include:
