More about Ranch Hand Rescue & How You Can Help:
Ranch Hand Rescue started because of the growing need to save farm animals from neglect and starvation.
Due to the current state of the economy, many people are unable to care for their animals, which has resulted in a record number of seizures by law enforcement agencies. Ranch Hand Rescue works with Law Enforcement and the Courts to save farm animals that are about to be seized or have been seized for abuse & neglect. They take the animals no one else will, rather than leave them to be euthanized.
While thousands of animal shelters in the US are designed for cats and dogs, only a small handful of such facilities are capable of sheltering farm animals. That’s where Ranch Hand Rescue comes in.
How You Can Help (more details below):
- Become an ambassador or volunteer
- Foster or adopt an animal
- Have a party
- Sponsor an animal
- Provide a Wish List Item
- Make a monetary donation

Have A Party!
American Pet Spa & Resort is the primary sponsor for Ranch Hand Rescue. Without their help the Sanctuary & Rescue would not exist.
One of the ways they help is through parties.
For example, a kids’ birthday party includes access to their huge pavilion, a dedicated “Sheriff” (staff member) for your party, a craft or game, a tour of the facilities, and more! Kids will feed the fish, pet a rabbit, and feed the chickens. A miniature horse will also be brought out for petting. Prices start at $13.99 per child ($100 minimum).
Other entertainment can be added to your party package, such as bounce houses, clowns, and face painting.
HALF of every Party goes to support RHR!

Volunteering
From physical labor on the ranch, to administrative tasks like fundraising, you can help!
Guidelines
Volunteers should first submit an application. Once approved, volunteers are asked to attend an orientation session lasting around 1 hour to familiarize themselves with the Ranch and to ask any questions as well as schedule their first volunteer session/training.
All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Caring for farm animals is very different than caring for domestic pets. Volunteers are not allowed to work directly with any of the animals. They get the absolute worst abuse and neglect cases and many times they are near death. There are some serious dangers involved when working with large animals in general, but they are especially obvious when working with large animals that are not used to human contact or have only had negative human interactions. While they appreciate your desire to help, they hope you understand that this guideline is for the good of the animals as well as volunteers.
Volunteers are asked to work at least 8 hours per month. For ranch hands, those hours should be scheduled in advance and not worked on a “drop-in” basis. The animals have strict requirements for feeding, exercise, etc. and they need volunteers that can commit to specific timeframes so they can balance staff accordingly.
Ambassador Program:
Ages 16 & Under
For those interested in volunteering under the age of 16, you’re encouraged to become a part of the Ranch Hand Rescue Ambassador program. This program was designed to recruit RHR Ambassadors to assist in spreading their message as well as to help with fundraising initiatives.
Ambassadors are required to be certified and take the Ranch Hand Rescue Pledge. RHR Ambassadors have held car washes, sold raffle tickets, set up lemonade stands, held garage sales, as well as held fundraisers for RHR in their school. RHR Ambassadors are critical to the growth of our organization and play a vital role in their development.
To Volunteer or Become an Ambassador:
- Download and complete the Volunteer Application and Talents form.
- Scan and email the completed application to bob@ranchhandrescue.org. or fax is to 940-464-3322.
- A background check will be performed before you can start volunteering (fee required)
- Once received, it will be reviewed and our staff will contact you to schedule an orientation.
Become a Foster Family
Foster homes are the lifeline to saving farm animals. Foster families provide immediate shelter, love and attention to these amazing animals. Simply put, foster families allow RHR to save more animals.
These individuals open their homes and their hearts to provide the much needed love and attention that these animals deserve. They give the animals back their dignity as they nurse them back to health and treat them with kindness & compassion. Some foster homes help rehabilitate starved equines and other farm animals while others work with animals who have training problems.
If you would like more information on becoming a Certified RHR Foster family email us at info@ranchhandrescue.org. If you think you may not have enough experience, it’s not an issue.
