Scarborough Renaissance Festival – GIVEAWAY
Recently, we were invited to attend Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie. We hadn’t been in several years, so this was a real treat!
Scarborough Renaissance Festival is an interactive event that’s fun for the whole family – 16th Century style!
Enjoy the thrills of full combat jousting and falconry demonstrations, live Renaissance entertainment on 27 stages, over 200 craft shoppes, amazing artisan demonstrations, Renaissance rides, food fit for a king and be enchanted by Mermaids in the Mermaid Lagoon!
You’ll even find a fun troll bridge leading down a set of stairs to a hidden troll house!
Throughout the fair, you’ll find LOTS of people in a variety of period costumes (as well as a few that are in random costumes – I even saw a Pokemon/Pikachu)!!
If you don’t already own something, but want to get into the spirit of the event, there are stores on site to purchase or rent all sorts of attire:)
Kids can even purchase their own wands!
Every weekend has a different theme and a variety of special events, so be sure to check the daily schedule online, especially if you have your hopes set on seeing something specific.
As you’re walking around, you’ll also see individuals performing off-stage, as well as lots of fun things to do like hair braiding, henna, and more!
One of the most unique parts of this festival is the variety of rides that they offer. The fact is, they’re not motorized or powered by electricity!! It’s all done by hand, the way it would have been in the 16th century. So the merry-go-round is actually powered by a man walking around in a circle, and the pirate ship is powered by a man rocking the ship back and forth. It’s really cool to watch!
In addition to the wooden, man-powered rides, there are lots of other fun things for the kids to do, such as a petting zoo ($3), camel ($5) and elephant ($8) rides, and a large maze ($2-$3).
Be sure to come hungry! There are lots of unique food items, such as
- Scottish Eggs
- Hand-made Pastas
- Sheppard’s Pie
- Meat Pies
- Gian Turkey Legs
- and LOTS more!!
Don’t forget your camera!! The festival is full of fun photo-ops!
