A Place Where Lessons Are Learned, Beautiful Stories are Told, and Dreams Come True
Once Upon a Time, just across the railroad tracks on the outskirts of Old Town Lewisville, near the banks of Lake Lewisville; sat a special non-profit children’s theatre where all children ages 5-18 were invited to participate in, and benefit from, the art of musical theatre. This actually is not a fairy-tale! The Actors Conservatory Theatre has existed in Lewisville, Texas for 22 years to provide opportunities for children in the fine arts. It is a place where lessons are learned, stories are told, dreams come true, and the magic of theatre is a reality. Over the past 22 years, thousands of children have been welcomed in to experience theatre regardless of experience level, socio-economic status or special needs.
Today the mission at The ACT is alive and thriving. Children are met by instructors/mentors who are committed to meeting them exactly where they are when they walk through the doors. The instructors look for strengths to build on and lovingly make sure all children get a role in the story-telling where they can shine and grow. The instructors are highly qualified in their craft in all areas of musical theatre; dance, musical training and acting. Beyond being qualified, they are passionate about teaching children in a safe environment where children can experience failures and build on their successes. Their ability to balance nurture and training in the arts is second to none.
At the ACT the beautiful concept of true team effort manifests itself in high-quality productions as everyone involved invests their talents, whether well-developed or “yet to be discovered.” Parents even work together to build sets in the workshop, pull costumes from inventory, sew costumes in the costume shop, pull props from the props room, or run sound and lights from the tech booth. The complete process of putting a final show on the stage takes place under one roof while the children receive instruction in multiple rehearsal spaces. The children the ACT serves are truly exposed to every area of production. This adds to their appreciation for the process and sharpens their ability to recognize efforts behind the scenes. Beginning at age 13, they actually have a chance to experience theatre from behind the scenes if they so choose.
It is a perfect time to experience excellence in children’s theatre at The Actors Conservatory Theatre.
