Volunteering
From physical labor on the ranch, to administrative tasks like fundraising, you can help!
Guidelines
Volunteers should first submit an application. Once approved, volunteers are asked to attend an orientation session lasting around 1 hour to familiarize themselves with the Ranch and to ask any questions as well as schedule their first volunteer session/training.
All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Caring for farm animals is very different than caring for domestic pets. Volunteers are not allowed to work directly with any of the animals. They get the absolute worst abuse and neglect cases and many times they are near death. There are some serious dangers involved when working with large animals in general, but they are especially obvious when working with large animals that are not used to human contact or have only had negative human interactions. While they appreciate your desire to help, they hope you understand that this guideline is for the good of the animals as well as volunteers.
Volunteers are asked to work at least 8 hours per month. For ranch hands, those hours should be scheduled in advance and not worked on a “drop-in” basis. The animals have strict requirements for feeding, exercise, etc. and they need volunteers that can commit to specific timeframes so they can balance staff accordingly.
Ambassador Program: Ages 16 & Under
For those interested in volunteering under the age of 16, you’re encouraged to become a part of the Ranch Hand Rescue Ambassador program. This program was designed to recruit RHR Ambassadors to assist in spreading their message and well as to help with fundraising initiatives. Ambassadors are required to be certified and take the Ranch Hand Rescue Pledge. RHR Ambassadors have held car washes, sold raffle tickets, set up lemonade stands, held garage sales, as well as held fundraisers for RHR in their school. RHR Ambassadors are critical to the growth of our organization and play a vital role in their development.
